Yeah, that’s right baby! Here’s your chance to score a copy of Ten Ton Photoshop! Why the give-away? Well did you know that this month marks the 20th birthday of Adobe’s image editing titan? To celebrate, Ten Ton is giving away a copy of Ten Ton Photoshop Essentials! How much does that rule? Our randomly drawn lucky winner can choose between either Ten Ton Photoshop Essentials Part One or Ten Ton Photoshop Essentials Part Two.

So how do you shoot for a copy? Easy. All ya gotta do is throw a comment into this post. You can talk about whatever you’d like: Your favorite Photoshop command, why you want to learn Photoshop, a war story from the Photoshop trenches…whatever you’d like. Just keep it clean for the youngins, kay? The contest runs until the end of the month, so you have until Feb 28 to enter. Sound sweet? Damn straight!

On March 1st, we’ll randomly draw a name from our list of comments and announce the winner. In the meantime, check out this fantastic post over on WebDesignerDepot about the past 20 years of Photoshop and the origins of your favorite image app!

Heck, remember when a 336 Mhz G3 was smokin'?
  • Cheers out haha. Dude your going to have to trademark that and stick it on the back of your upcoming word press dvd.
  • That definitely sounds like a plan! Cheers bro! -Geoff

    Hey TTB!

Since my wife and her family are a bunch of digital shutter bugs, this would be great for all of us. If I don't win one at least I have a gift idea for upcoming B-days. =)
  • Haha! Thanks Jim! Good luck!

I can't believe Photoshop is 20 years old!!!! WOW! I don't know what I'd ever do without it... Would love to win this... Thank you!
  • Hey Aliya! Yeah, Photoshop is one of those apps that you almost take for granted...I use it several times every day, even on weekends. It's just *there!* So yup, it's the big 2-0 for PS! Cheers! ~Geoff

I see the fantastic photoshop artworks people make and I am dying to learn it.

I would like to win ten ton books photoshop dvd because I'm in the middle of a killer project called "toon wars". The main idea is that you crate your own super hero or super villain and mash them up against each other.
The website is dedicated to comic/manga/free lancer artists so it has to look the part and with Ten Ton Books Photoshop dvd I know I'll obtain the skills to crate a great logo and web layout.
    BTW
If you still looking for an inspiration for your now dvd cover this is my suggestion draw an Evil Vending Machine.
  • Sounds like a very cool project -- definitely share the url when the project's complete. An evil vending machine sounds like a really cool idea! What would the vending machine have inside it? Twinkies? DVDs? Robotic squids?

    Haha, good luck!

    Great--what a great prize
  • Good luck, Vicky!
  • TopWinger
I've always wanted to learn how to photoshop; I've just never been able to get how to do it.
  • Well here's your big chance, winger! Good luck!!
  • edmondleung
Pick me, your next winner! Starving artist desperately needs photoshop to work.
  • I hear ya, Ed -- good luck in the contest. You may just be our lucky winner, so stay tuned!!
  • Kaitlin
I agree with Brian, and because I know him I have to say that yes, he's very organized with his layers. It's amazing really, haha. I do photography as a hobby so I think your Photoshop dvd would come in handy too. And by the way, I love the word "non-jargonny" as it's used in the product description.
  • You guys really don't want to see my real-world Photoshop files. "Where the hell's the damn logo?" I pledge to properly name and sort my layers from this day forward. I'll start tomorrow, I promise. Next week for sure.

Yeah, ya like that "non-jargonny" huh? That word/phrase sticks out for me too. I needed something to help describe the DVD in the product description, and even though "non-jargonny" isn't really a word, it fits really well...I think anyway!

    Cheers Kaitlin! Good luck!

    Geoff
  • We are holding you to that! btw hows it working out?
  • Haha! No worries!!!
  • Kevin Humphrey
    Hey Geoff,
Thanks for the giveaway. I love your teaching style. I'm going to nominate you for the golden apple award. (if it exists, I think I made that up.)
  • haha! Well, even if you made it up, I am completely honored for the nomination! Awesome that you dig the teaching style. Really, I'm just having fun and doing it to help people out -- I mean look at how long this thread is getting. You guys are all awesome, and it's so cool that you're all into this wacky Ten Ton thing.

    Cheers!

I would love to maximize the plastic wrap's potential with this DvD. Ok, maybe not plastic wrap, but anything to sharpen photoshop skills is aces in my book. I wonder what postage is for 10 tons?
  • Yeah, who needs the contents, when ya got the plastic wrap! You know, I can send you some free shrink wrap if ya want!! As for postage on 10 tons, that's a good question -- so long as it was being shipped in North America, we'd cover it though! Good luck winning the draw bud! ~Geoff
  • I think a majority of my web designs are some place around 90 - 200 layers. You do not mistreat layers!! You need to take good care of them. This includes naming them, giving them a folder to stay in, feeding them, walking them, and occasionally playing with them! If you neglect your layers they WILL come back and haunt you some night. Layers become nightmares quickly so please people, treat your layers with love and respect! - P.e.T.L (people for the ethical treatment of layers)

p.s I laughed the whole time while writing this.
  • That is some funny, funny stuff! Okay, so if I make a P.e.T.L (people for the ethical treatment of layers) Ten Ton t-shirt, all proceeds will go both to Brian and to bringing layers awareness -- how's that sound, everybody?

PS: I water my layers and talk to them daily.
  • Yes! The world does need T shits for layer awareness! If you do make one please let me know so I can be the first to purchase!
  • Sounds like a great plan, Brian!

I hope this is where we comment for the give away! I just wanted to thanks for saving my life last week! I picked up an issue of 'web designer' magazine with the intention on shaping my skills in Dreamweaver. I could not figure out how to center my page with floating DivTags. The Tutorial you provided was "RIGHT ON" exactly what I was searching for.

As far as photoshop goes, my brother is a designer in New York and has been guiding me with starting my own business as a designer 6 months ago here in Chicago. His photoshop skills are mad good and I am still getting the hang of it. But, I am slowly mastering photoshop like a young jedi masters levitating his ship.

MCHLUV and thanks to Ten Ton Books. I am a proud fan!
  • Hey Michael! Yup, you're in the right spot. What a cool story about seeing the article in Web Designer -- awesome to hear I was able to help out. And now you know how to center those layouts!

Good to hear you're on your way with Photoshop, too. I otta give you a DVD simply for referring to jedi levitating their ships, with no mention of this new clone wars junk. You obviously know your SW, my man! I really need to let all this go, but I refuse to accept:

    1) That C-3P0 was built as a home project by Darth Vader
    2) That all the stormtoopers are clones of Boba Fett's dad
    3) That Greedo ever, ever, fired first...

I'm sorry, but Michael's really got me riled up here!!! I could easily add another items to the list...but I'll save that for an episode of Ten Ton TV!

    Cheers!

    Geoff
  • Thanks for the note Geoff! Hope I win this wonderful gift!

Good stuff on top 3 "refuse to let go's".

I agree with the Greedo firing first. Special Addition DVD's always lack logic.
"George Lucas explained the change by stating that he wanted to make clear to children that Han had "no choice" but to shoot Greedo". I call bull@#$* on that!

Noticed the drum kit behind you in tutorials. Very cool!
Check out my Chicago band Haywood Yards(Bluegrass Disco Punk Rock!)
    http://www.myspace.com/haywoodyards

    Cheers and thanks a million!

  • Oh, b.s. all the way!!! Han was a rogue, a pirate...and that's why we love him. Seriously, don't get me started on this -- have you eyeballed the toys in the backgrounds of some of the vids? I'm...I'm sick...really, really sick. And how the heck did Leia have memories of her mother if she died during childbirth? And the balance of power in the galaxy was tipped over a stupid trade embargo involving some backwater planet? And midichlorians? Midichlorians?!? Seriously...

    Aww hell, here we go...

...So now that the rest of the thread knows I'm a total Star Wars geek (Episodes 4-6, please...I'm a loser with taste), I'd better shut my trap!

Yeah, been playing drums for a long time. I'm refurbishing that kit actually -- it's a bit of a Frankenstein, but I enjoy building / mod-ing / re-fabbing as much as I enjoy playing. They'll probably make their way onto an episode eventually!

And I'm listening to Haywood Yards right now. Very cool. I love the blend of styles. I'm gonna email you, as I have an idea...

Oh and, on another topic, if Neo really was "the one" then how come...Oh never mind...

    Cheers bro!

    Geoff
  • FYI!!!!

    THIS IS FREAKIN' ME OUT!

"And how the heck did Leia have memories of her mother if she died during childbirth?" I was just complaining to my wife about this yesterday....NO SH$#! Total and complete story stopper!
