Gettin' Er Set Up: It’s Dreamweaver Workspaces! by Geoff Blake (posted May 17, 2006)

A really cool Dreamweaver feature is the ability to save and recall different workspace configurations. Dreamweaver will remember everything in your workspace; which panels are open (including which ones are expanded or collapsed), toolbars, the position of the Property Inspector, even the size and placement of the application’s window.

To create a workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Set up your workspace. Open or close toolbars, panels and so on in the workspace, and arrange these items wherever you’d like.
  2. Select Window > Workspace Layout > Save Current.
  3. In the dialog that appears, give your workspace a name.

  1. To ensure that it saved, try changing your workspace by closing or re-arranging some panels.
  2. To retrieve your stored workspace, choose Window > Workspace Layout, and select your layout’s name.

Pretty cool, huh? But where would you use this? Well, you might work with different panel configurations depending on what tasks you’re working on, or maybe you have to share your computer with a co-worker or your spouse, who also likes using Dreamweaver. Or how about this: Maybe you work on a laptop, and when you’re in the office you plug it into a nice big monitor. The bigger monitor will give you extra room for all your panels, inspectors, and so on. Then, when you’re on the road, you can change your workspace to accommodate the more compact space on the laptop monitor. Saved Workspaces are the best way to do that.
