Why One Timeline When Many Are More Fun? by Geoff Blake (posted May 17, 2006)

In Chapter 11 of Ten Ton Dreamweaver, you saw how you can easily add multiple animations to a single page using the Timeline command. But what if that just isn’t enough to fulfill your animation addiction? Well, Dreamweaver will actually allow you to create several timelines, each of which can contain multiple animations, for use on a single page.

Here’s how to add a new timeline to your page:

  1. To add a new timeline to your Timeline panel (and thus to your page), choose Modify > Timeline > Add Timeline.

The timeline panel is refreshed, and Timeline2 appears in the pull-down menu in the top-left corner of the Timeline panel. You can use this pull-down menu to switch between the different timelines on your page.

  1. To give your timeline a more descriptive name, choose Modify > Timeline > Rename Timeline; then in the Rename Timeline dialog box that appears, type in a new name and click OK.

Dreamweaver displays a message saying that any behaviors that control the timeline must be updated. You’ll see how behaviors and timelines work together towards the end of this chapter.

  1. Begin adding layers to your new timeline as you normally would.

  1. If you ever want to delete a timeline from the Timeline panel, choose Modify > Timeline > Remove Timeline.

Now that you know that a single timeline can contain multiple animations, and that a page can contain multiple timelines, there’s no excuse for creating fun, interactive web pages! Have fun!
