Editing Assets Is No Liability by Geoff Blake (posted May 17, 2006)

So you have a few graphics in your site that you want to edit in Photoshop. You could go on a wild goose chase to find them in the Files panel or in your site folder, or you could simply pluck them outta the Assets panel and edit 'em on the fly. Of course, once they've been edited, they'll update where ever they've been used in your site! Behold friends, the awesome power of Assets!

To edit your Assets, give this a try:

  1. Highlight an asset in one of the Asset panel’s categories.
  2. At the bottom of the panel, click the Edit button.

Depending on the asset, an external editor may launch or the asset may open directly in Dreamweaver. Colors and URLs can only be edited after they’ve been added to the Asset panel’s Favorites. For more on working with Favorites in the Assets panel, click here.

  1. Once the asset has been opened, make the changes you’d like, and save it.

Instantaneously, the asset updates across your site (except for colors and URLs) without even breaking a sweat. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that!

Note: To edit several assets at once, try using Shift or Ctrl ( Windows), or Shift or Command (Mac) to highlight several assets before clicking the Edit button.
