Savin' Time and Billing For It Anyway with Dreamweaver CS3's New CSS Rule Management

If you’re using Dreamweaver’s Code view, you’ll have to choose CSS Styles > Move CSS Rules when you right-click.

  1. In the Move To External Style Sheet dialog box that appears, do one of the following:

• To move your rules to an existing style sheet, make sure the Style Sheet option is selected;  then click Browse to navigate to your style sheet.

• To move your styles to a new style sheet, choose A New Style Sheet.

  1. When you’re done, click OK.

If you’d chosen to move your rules to an existing style sheet, Dreamweaver opens the style sheet and moves your rules over to it. If you opted to move your rules to a new style sheet, Dreamweaver will prompt you for a file name and a location to save your new style sheet to. Once saved, your style sheet will open. And not only will Dreamweaver dump your styles into your new style sheet, it’ll also attach the new style sheet to your current page for ya, saving you the hassle of doing it manually—now that’s huge!

Now, if your destination style sheet contains rules with the same names as the ones you’re trying to bring in, Dreamweaver will display a dialog box, giving you a chance to resolve the issue. You can choose to move the rule, or leave it where it is. If you decide to move the conflicting rule, your original CSS rule won’t be overwritten; the two will simply co-exist in the same style sheet. However, this may cause issues down the road, so you may want to be aware of this.
