Bonus Hang-Up: What's The Difference Between Class And Tag?

A bonus hang-up kinda seems like, “hey by the way, here’s something else to really screw you up!” I don’t really mean it like that, honest! But there’s one other aspect of CSS and Dreamweaver that seems to confuse the heck out of people, and that’s the difference between the different types of CSS rules types available in Dreamweaver—specifically Class and Tag.

You can actually do some pretty awesome things with these two fellas, but they both do completely different things, and work in very unique ways. Trying to explain exactly how these two fellas work is a bit more involved, so I’ve created a two-part video tutorial on exactly this subject, Dreamweaver Special: Class Rules Versus Redefined Tags. In the tutorial, I also demonstrate some of the issues we've discussed here. Check it out, and all should make sense!

CSS Hang-Up Round Up

So there it is. I hope I’ve been able to demystify and remove some confusion from these common tricky spots in Dreamweaver. If you’re still having trouble, I’d suggest getting a solid understanding of HTML and CSS fundamentals, either here on Ten Ton or elsewhere (there are many solid resources out there). I’d also suggest lots of fiddling and experimenting in Dreamweaver so you really have this down. I invite you to post any questions in the comments, too. Until then, keep at it, and have fun!
